"Want to go to Dinner?"

The title of this blog is pretty much my least favorite question to answer. I realized I am actually a little afraid of eating out! I don't want to get sick and have to deal with days of misery all for one meal. I do not understand those who have a "cheat day" and they pay the price later because I avoid glutenization totally. When I make plans with friends they alwayssssssss want to grab dinner before we go somewhere..before a concert, before a movie, lunch while shopping, etc.

I hate when people ask me to dine with them because I do not like bringing attention to the fact that I am not sure what I can have. I feel like it makes people uncomfortable. When you don't have faith in the waiter, thats even worse. I don't ever want to be the high maintenance one at dinner who has to make a scene.

I am writing this blog as a part 1 entry to a new iphone app that has totally fixed this problem for me. As you may know, I am addicted to my iphone......It never leaves my side. When the commercials say " there's an app for that "....they mean it!!

I have 2 go to apps that I have on my phone and I use them ALL the time. One is called : " Is That Gluten Free?" and it lists food brands by category. For example, I can search for chips/snacks and see a list of ones that are safe or not safe. The next one is : " Is That Gluten Free? : Eating Out" . This one lists restaurants and their menus!!!! For example I can search : Arby's restaurant and see what I can have there.

These apps have changed so much for me. Now when my friends ask to go to dinner at a certain place I can look up the menu and see what is gluten free....right from my phone!!!! The creators of these apps are so awesome! They update A LOT and add new items so it is well worth the money.

As I said before, I am totally addicted to my phone. The fact that I can look product or restaurant information up from my phone INSTANTLY is truly indescribable. These gluten free apps have changed a lot for me and I have more confidence eating out and grocery shopping. Also - when I'm bored I often just go through the lists because I still have a lot to learn.

I highly suggest you go to the app store and buy " Is That Gluten Free?" AND " Is That Gluten Free?: Eating Out". If you do not have an iphone, itouch, or ipad and you are a Celiac......You might want to go get an iphone! Thats how badly you need these apps :).

NOTE: I spit this blog up into 2 parts to avoid a LOOOOOONG entry. Part 2 will be up in a few days with pictures, and detailed info on the apps! Stay tuned :).

If you have any questions you follow @ISGLUTENFREE on twitter now!!

Have a nice 4th of July!

Sumer grillin =).

Hey!

Summer is amazing because I LOVE cooking on the grill. BBQ's are the best because they are mostly gluten free! Grilled chicken with sweet baby rays, burgers wrapped in lettuce, grilled veggies, corn on the cob, I could do on and on here..

My family loves to grill and we are getting pretty creative with our dishes! Have you tried Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce? Omg it's amazingggg. I love grilled chicken with some bbq on it!! I put that stuff on everything lately haha. I'm a little obsessed..

I thought I would share some pictures with you! Below are some grilled veggies that are oh so yummy. Also HOMEMADE FRENCH FRIES. Ohh yes! Probably my favorite food in the world, french fires. I often worry at restaurants if they are gluten free because you just never know. My Mom made these for me on the grill. I have never had french fries made on the grill but not I am a little addicted because they are fabulous!! You gotta try it!

Let me know your grilling tricks! =).

GONE BANANAS !

Heyy!

As you may know from my previous blog entires and twitter, I recently went back to my fav place ever. BALBOA ISLAND in California <3. It is the cutest place EVER!! They have little ice cream shops all around the island but the ones I love most are the frozen banana ones!! Balboa was not far from our hotel so everyday I would sneak out for some fruit.....Dipped in chocolate.... =).

ANYWAYS- My Mom and I have been talking about the Balboa bars for years and we joked that we should open a little stand somewhere. Well - somebody beat us to it!!

We were in Easton today and my Mom spotted the little frozen banana stand outside. We were so excited haha, these seriously are the best things ever. Oh and they are gluten free!! We talked to the owner and he is super nice!! I think the business will do very well here and it is in a great location. ( near the Brio fountain ). Next time you are out shopping in Easton you MUST try this place!

It's the perfect semi healthy gluten free treat for a hot summer day =).

Summer.....

Hi! Happy Summer!!!!! I am finished with school and all my finals are OVER ( yess ). I worked super hard this quarter and I am very proud of my results :).

Today is my first official day of summer break but it did not end up like I was expecting. I went to the doctor today and when she saw my tow ( as in the OTHER toe, not the one she worked on last time ) She said the nail needed to come off now because it was infected. AGIAIN. ARRGH! I had a feeling she was going to say that but I did not think I would have to go through this twice! Granted, I am a bit of a drama queen sometimes but this is not a pleasant ordeal at all. My doctor is so kind and the nurse she had helping was also great! Just the Novocain shots in my toe were very painful.

Anyways, I'm home now and i'm just chilling on my ipad :).

Here's what I need help with. I posted this last summer when I had my other nail infected.....but..why won't my feet heal right? I still have blisters on my heels from uncomfy shoes that are like 3 years old! Maybe I got an infection from a pedicure or a yoga class, but I cannot seem to fight it off on my feet and I need to get the while nail taken off. After a year from my first one I would say it's grown back about half way. Normally it takes a year max to grow back.

I am frustrated and I think there may be a link with Celiac and feet..or wounds for that matter. Our healing is different and because my immune system isn't the best, it effects me differently.

Anywhoooo- Shoot me an email or leave a comment if you have any similar stories or info about this! This time I didn't go into much detail because last year my post was a little graphic..Haha! This will be my third summer having bandages or some type of problem with my feet. It always with flip flop season, why not winter where close toed shoes are fashionably acceptable?!?!

Ok enough ranting. My summer will go on! It will be sensitive and painful for a few days but then I should be good!

I will keep you updated. I hope in a year I won't have to do this again LOL..Oye vey!

My first fishing tale..

Ahoy!

At the end of this blog I will show you a picture of the grouper I caught. Like any fishing story, this fish was 100 pounds by now and it keeps growing!! Haha =P.

My Aunt and Uncle took me deep sea fishing!! My Uncles friend Captain Ronnie was there as well and I learned so much from him it was awesome. I have never been fishing before and it is something I did not expect to ever enjoy. However, I am itching to go back on the boat! It was one of the coolest experiences ever because it was totally out of my comfort zone and I had no idea what I was doing..but I ended up loving it.

Also - I feel like a whole new world of FISH has opened up for me. Afterall FISH is gluten free, naturally without the bread crumbs hahaha. As I have mentioned before I don't like fish. I mean I lovee fish I just do not like eating fish. It all started when I was really little growing up on cape cod. My nickname was Mary Mermaid because once you took me to the beach I would not leave and I would generally throw a big fit when my parents said it was time to go home. Then I got the nickname Mary the screaming seagull. lol! Anyways, I thought I was a mermaid and the fish were my friends so eating them would be wronggggg. " Fish are friends not food" - Finding Nemo.

However, I found out that sadly I am not a mermaid. On the plus side, fish is not so bad tasting and it opens up a lot more food options for me!

The weird thing is the first fish I caught was a black grouper. This fish is very soft and not at all "fishy" tasting. We went back and cooked it and I did enjoy it. I'm getting used to the taste of fish, so this was a good one to try. My Aunt is an AMAZING cook and she made us a special gluten free version ( she's GF too! ) Then she made the others their version.

The moral of this blog is : Try new things! Nobody would ever believe I went deep sea fishing (actually catch something!!) then eat fish. But I did and I had the best time. Living with this disease has taught me that I cannot be soooo picky and the older I get the more I am trying new foods. Theres more to life then grilled chicken!! ;) . At first I was grossed out to touch the shrimp to put on the hook to catch the bait. After awhile I had fish blood, guts and poop ( yes, it was a littleeeee gross haha ) on my shirt!

I have a pretty cool family! Thank you Aunt Molly and Uncle Dave! Thank you to Ronnie as well for teaching me so many cool things.

I saw this picture on some gossip site of Nick Jonas fishing. HAHA so I figured I would post this because I love fishing and Nick Jonas =).

BON VIE!

Hey!
Soo..I went to a restaurant called Bon Vie tonight with my parents. They go there all the time but I have never been there. ( I don't know why!!) When I got the menu I was disappointed because it did not seem like I could have anything. I told my waiter about the while gluten free situation and he said to come up with something and they will work with what they have. WOW! I kept it simple and asked for a grilled chicken version of a chicken parm. The chef actually came out to our table to meet me and talk to me about the menu. He said that the sauce does contain gluten and so does the soup I was interested in. I gave him an idea of something that I wanted..I said " Grilled chicken that is not so boring" Haha! So he went and made something just for me!! It made me feel reassured when the chef came out and knew exactly what Celiac disease is and what is gluten free and what is not. Most restaurants just assume the sauce is ok. I am glad my waiter make sure to check everything with the chef, that was very nice.

When the waiter brought it out he said "Ok I have no idea what this is but i'm getting this next time!" It was lovely! I am not sure exactly what was on the chicken but it was some type of tomato and basil sauce maybe. However, it had a lot of taste to it. Unlike most restaurants where I get a plain grilled chicken and salad..Boringgggg! Underneath the chef made me a special potato that did not contain gluten.

I was so happy with the service I got there. It's a Saturday night ( with lots of prom kids ) and they still took the time to make sure I would not be glutenized. This means a lot to me and I wanted to write a nice review on it. Unfortunately i've had bad experiences at some restaurants so getting good service is really refreshing.

Thank you Bon Vie at Easton!! I will defiantly be back!
